SCARCITY OF PETROLEUM PRODUCTS HITS AKWA IBOM
Long queues have returned to filling stations in the State, thus shooting up per litre price of petrol from N75 to N80. The reason behind the queues and the price increase according to Mr. Edem Nta, chairman of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria in the State, is due to a shortfall in allocation at the depot. He did not however make clear during a telephone interview with The Pioneer if the shortfall affects Calabar and Port Harcourt depot or if it is in Calabar alone. Mr Nta further said that the situation has become so bad that for some days, no single truck is loaded. He also disclosed that as at last Friday a liter of petrol was sold at N74 at the depot. It would be recall that long queues have since disappeared in filling stations all over the country since the introduction of deregulation in the nation's downstream sector of the petroleum industry. In the last two years or so since the introduction of deregulation, long queues and price increase which used to be a common sight during Christmas seasons were not observed in the nation.
