NOMINATED: HILARY I. INYANG , a professor of Engineering, for the position of Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Rector of the United Nations University. Inyang, a dual citizen of the United States and Nigeria , is reputed to have made great technical and policy contributions to regional and global sustainable development as an educator, researcher, government official and corporate leader. He is currently the Duke Energy Distinguished Professor of Environmental Engineering and Science, Professor of Earth Science and Director of the Global Institute for Energy and Environmental systems at the University of North Carolina – Charlotte.
SUSPENDED: BASSEY NTEMUSE, Head of Council, Urue Offong/Oruko Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State by the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly, following a petition by six councilors of the council accusing him of drunkenness and misappropriation of funds.
SENTENCED : IKPONG JACK ESSIEN , a fraudster, to two years imprisonment with hard labour by an Etinan magistrate court for obtaining N150, 000 from one Usen Robert in 2002 under the false pretense of wanting to sell him a parcel of land.
SENTENCED : JOSHUA JIMMY, to ten years imprisonment by a high court in Uyo for killing his town's man, Akpan Nanna.

Nyong, a former parliamentarian, is currently the Paramount Ruler of Oron Local Government Area.
INSTALLED: EFFIONG EBEREFIAK , a scholar and social commentator, as the head of Oku Clan in Uyo Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State . The coronation rites were performed by the Paramount Ruler of Ibiono Ibom, Edidem Ime Udousoro.
DIED: ARIT ESHIET, administrative judge of Ikot Ekpene Judiciary Division of an ailment suspected to be cancer. She was from Itu Local Government Area, and also from Eket by marriage.
DIED: ARIT EDET EBIEME, 81, from Urue Offong/Oruko. She was the mother of the present commissioner of Culture and Tourism in Akwa Ibom, Asa E. Ebieme.
DIED: EKANEM NSIKANABASI EKANEM , 37, from Ikot Ekpene. He was a graduate of civil engineering, University of Lagos , and later became the Managing Director of Bekado Nigeria Limited, a company established by his late father, Obong Godwin Udom Ekanem.
