APPOINTED: AKPAKPAN, EDET, Professor of Economics, as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, of the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. He is the current Dean of the University’s Faculty of Business Administration.  He attended the University of Ibadan for his Bachelor of Science Degree in 1975, the University of Wales, Cardiff, for his Master of Science in Economics in 1978 and the University of Manchester, United Kingdom for his Doctorate in 1983. Professor Akpakpan has authored five books, co-authored three and has over 30 learned publications to his credit. A life member of the Nigeria Economics society, he has served and is still serving as a consultant to multinationals, agencies and bodies on economic and environment issues. The appointment takes effects.

APPOINTED: EKPO, COMFORT, Professor of Educational Technology and the current Director, Institute of Education, Faculty of Education, University of Uyo, as the university’s new Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic. She is the first woman to be so appointed in the school. She attended the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria for her Bachelor of Library Science in 1978, and Master of Education in Instructional Technology in 1984. She obtained her Doctorate in Educational Technology from the University of Wales, Cardiff, in 1990. Professor Ekpo who had-earlier been appointed the First Female Professor of Educational Technology in UNIUYO and the first female Director of the Institute of Education in UNIUYO, had been a member of the Governing Council of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a member of the National Universities Commission Panel on Students’ Work Industrial Experience Scheme, Job Specification Document for Nigerian Universities.

ELECTED: ETTEH, OKPOLUM, a stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as the new member to fill the vacant seat in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, created by the death of the former member, late Ernest Ukochio. He is from Ibeno Local Government Area of the State.

 

DIED: MBOSOH, UDO EKANEM, 57, wife of a foremost Akwa Ibom politician and former Executive Director of the Niger Delta Developement Commission, NDDC, Engr. Udo Mbosoh, at Northwick Park Hospital, London. Mother of Four, Ekanem Mbosoh was the president of Inner Wheel Club, Uyo and a Paul Harris Fellow, Rotary Club.

DIED: INYANG, D. E. LARRY, 44, a manager in the Environmental Department of Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited, a subsidiary of ExxonMobil. He was from Asong, in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area.

 

DIED: EMAH, JOHN ELIJAH, a Rev. Pastor with the Truth and Life Church, Idoro, Uyo and a retired employee of the Ministry of Information, Akwa Ibom State. He was from Adaha Okpo, Etinan, and is survived by Mrs. Aniedi Elijah Emah, wife, the Assistant Chief Nursing Officer, University of Uyo; Ms Esther Elijah Emah, daughter; and Elder Godwin John Emah, brother, Proprietor, Modern Training Institute, Uyo, amongst many relations.

APPOINTED: EKIDEM, UDO ESIEN, an engineer and a successful businessman, as the Ntisong III, and the Head of Akwa Esop Imaisong Ibibio. His formal installation takes place on November 11, 2006. He takes over from Sir Sebastian James Umoren who has retired after more than two decades of reign as Ntisong II. Obong Ekidem who hails from Eket Local Government Area is the founding member of several Ibibio organizations, including Ibibio Elders’ Forum, the Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio and patron of the defunct Ikpaisong development Association. He is an Elder of the Lutheran Church and is married with children.

DIED: AKPAN, NTIEYONG U, 82, an erstwhile Chief Secretary and Head of Civil Service of Eastern Nigeria in 1966. Late Akpan had his secondary education at Duke Town Secondary School Calabar, he obtained his BA and BSc degrees at the University of London. He had been District Officer, Secretary Eastern Region Officer, London, Secretary to various cabinet and also Director of many government-owned companies and parastatals.
He was the Pro-chancellor and Chairman of Council of Universities of Nigeria Nsukka and Benin, Chairman Governing Council, College of Education Uyo and Federal Polytechnic Nassarawa and founding Director Institute of Public Policy and Administration University of Calabar. He was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria.
